The following picture is an update of the Solar Power Panel:

I have changed the way that I monitor the voltage and current drawn by my DC devices. I have added the 2 buss bars on the lower left. The positive buss bar is connected directly to the battery bank, The negative buss bar is connected to a 100A current shunt.

In the picture below shows the small DC current buss which show voltage and current thru it. I had to change this as the previous one used a shunt and did not show low currents very well. The current meter below is able to handle up to 10A.

This buss is protected by an 8A in-line fuse. I run my raspberry pi's and power a 7 port USB hub that I charge my phone, tablet etc from.

In the above picture you can see the pvc pipe that I placed to route the PV cables plus a cat 5 cable that I currently have a DS18B20 temperature sensor attached so that I can monitor the temperature just behind the panels. The pvc pipe goes along the lower side of the fence and then is buried underground as it gets closer to the house as there is a slope to the back yard.

In my next post I will have some pictures of the Solar Charger and battery setup in the basement above my workspace.
I have soldered on a DS18B20 1-wire temperature sensor and am powering it with a 6v AA 4 cell battery pack.

I have programmed the Moteino to send the current temperature to a Raspberry Pi the I will be using as the Gateway for my Home monitoring system. I am using Felix's USB Moteino connected to the raspberry pi. I have created a GitHub repo for my ongoing development of the my Sensor Monitoring network. Felix has a wonderful Gateway program for the raspberry pi, but I wish to learn Python programming on the Pi.
In the above picture you can see a Raspberry Pi Model B connected to the Sensorian sheild running the Sensorian Raspian Image. By default when booting the Sensorian Image it displays the active ethernet port and the IP address assigned. The shield has multiple sensors (motion, light, touch, compass, temperature, altitude) The shield can keep track of the time with a battery backed-up real time clock. I was able to test some of the example Python programs, but still have not received the manual that was supposed to come with the shield.
Today I decided to start documenting the one's I have started and hopefully move more of them to completion. One of my most recent projects is the RasPiO Duino dual pack I received as a Kickstarter backer. I soldered the first board together this morning and here are a before and after picture.
Unfortunately I will have to wait a week to test the printing as 1 bolt was missing. I did very much enjoy the actual building (5 hours straight thru). I guess the maker in me will find the total experience greater for having done the build and then knowing exactly what is happening as I start printing objects with it.
I have started testing some python code to send control commands from a PC to the raspberry Pi controlling the robot. The PC runs python code to read a joystick and then transmit a command over a tcp link to the raspibot. The code is still in the early test stages. Below are some more recent pictures of the raspibot. I have redone the mount for the ultrasonic sensor and camera so that the viewing angle can be lowered or raised.

First the camera and sensor pointing down.
I helped him setup his gimbal unit to steady his GoPro for aerial filming. So today I did some adjustments and managed to get the seventh channel to control the pitch of the gimbal. Here is my first attempt at flying a quadrotor.

Yes, it came down uncontrolled, then I flew it back and then realized that the SD card I have can only store 7-8 minutes of flight, so I did not get the return flight on film. I will fly again tomorrow and film that flight.

Well a lot of first's today. First quadrotor flight, first video edit...
This weekend I got nxt-phyton installed on the Raspberry Pi Model a that will be commanding the Lego Mindstorm NXT that drives the robot (for now). I used some code from David Llewelld's Blog (hope I got the name correct) I plan on connecting from a PC/notebook or eventually another Raspberry Pi and joystick to remotely control my raspibot. This picture show an alaMode shield for the Raspberry Pi. The picture was taken without the shield being plugged into a Raspberry Pi. I had plugged it into one of my Raspberry Pi's and ran several test sketchs on the alaMode to blink a led, read temperature and show the changing light on the photo sensor.

The alaMode is an arduino board by itself, but allows the Raspberry Pi to easily communicate with the arduino micro controller and shields.
I was only going to post about things I have completed and then realized that it might be too long between posts. I have been playing with a lot of different things. just this last week I was lucky to receive a raspberry pi camera. It seems that I lucked out and logged onto the Farnell website in the UK and found some in stock (I had problems attempting to setup an account on the North American website). I ordered a Raspberry Pi Model A and a Raspberry Pi camera and received them in less than a week.

Here is the first picture I took:

I will now start posting different things that I play with, completed or not...

My current complaint is with Parrot ARDrone 2.0, I received one as a Christmas gift only to find out that even though they claim support for iPad's and other iDevices they do not mention you have to the latest hardware to get the full functionality. Unfortunately I have an iPad 1 which is not upgradable to the latest IOS and therefore cannot run Version 2.x of the ARDrone software. It is very disappointing to get such a wonderful gift to only use part of the capabilities without dropping a bunch of money on a new iPad.

I have found an interesting piece of software which looks to be very helpful in my desire to start tinkering with robotics in the future. It has a plug-in for the ARDrone 1.0 with support for my ARDrone 2.0 coming...

I hope to have more posts about that.
This is a RCA 1802 microprocessor evaluation board and yes I bought it 30 years ago. It came with 256 bytes of memory, but I upgraded it to 3072 bytes. I could be communicated to by RS232 or Teletype. I did have a teletype with paper punch to store programs on, but too large to keep.
